Preview: iRacing NEC Round 7
The No. 84 Porsche will try to keep winning while the No. 85 Porsche Cayman team will try to come back from a rough stretch of races lately.
The No. 84 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup team with drivers Manuel Mayer and Benjamin Fischer sits third in the championship with three races to go and goes into this weekend’s race with a lot of momentum. Together the two Nordschleife veterans have won two out of the last three races, but they are still trailing the first and second place in the points by a significant margin.
“Realistically speaking, first or second place in the championship is going to be difficult for us. But we will give it everything we have again this weekend. It’s been a heck of a year for us so far, so hopefully we can keep it going.”, Manuel Mayer said on Friday.
Pascal Theis, Julian Bell and the No. 85 Porsche Cayman GT4 team have endured a stretch of rough races lately. In the last three races the team has suffered three consecutive DNF, failing to see the checkered flag.
The team has struggled with mechanical problems, but also made a number of costly driver errors, that resulted in crashes and a lot of damaged race cars.
“We need to do better. That’s the bottom line. We showed what we’re capable of early in the season. If we can go back to that and focus on what we did right, I truly believe we will be competitive and should be able to get a good result.”, Pascal Theis said.
Canadian team-mate Julian Bell joins Theis again on Sunday and is highly motivated, despite the recent struggles:
“I’m not worried. We will be fine. Sometimes these things happen. We had quite a bit of bad luck and some issues, but it’s a fresh start for us this weekend.”, explained the 35-year old.
The No. 85 Porsche Cayman GT4 team holds sixth place in the GT4 class championship standings heading into this weekend’s championship round.
Round 7 of the iRacing Nürburgring Endurance Championship is scheduled to go green on Sunday at 15:40 CEST / 9:40 am EDT.
