Preview: iRacing 24 Hours of Spa
Last year’s edition ended up in major disappointment for the team, in the form of one car crashing out of the race during the night and the other finishing the race in 26th place.
“We hope to do better this time around. Preparation for this race has been difficult and very challenging for the team, especially during the recent heat wave.”, says team manager Benjamin Fischer.
“But we have a good setup, a good car and we know that even though we’re not the fastest car, consistency is king in this race, especially.”
Team veteran driver Manuel Mayer from Teisendorf, Germany, Tobias Abel from Frankfurt, David Koopmans and Fischer will be the four pilots to share driving duties in the No. 84 Porsche 911 GT3 R in this year’s edition of the endurance classic.
The famous Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps located in the Ardennes mountains of Belgium is one of the true endurance tests of man and machine every year, as the late July date makes for hot in-car and track temperatures. The team expects more of the same this weekend.
“Yeah, the weather has been warm this week. It’s cooled off a little bit on Friday, so hopefully we’ll have a nice race and we don’t get cooked too terribly much in the car. But the track will probably be hot regardless and we’ll have to prepare for a low level of grip during the day.”, Mayer commented on the situation.
Fischer Motorsport will have a live stream ready on YouTube during the race, from onboard the No. 84 Porsche. The race is expected to start and take the green flag around 16:45 GMT / 12:45 pm ET.
