Preview: IVRA ClubSport Series at COTA
Fischer Motorsport is under significant pressure, following a rather mixed season opener at Road America four weeks ago. Both of the team’s cars, the No. 84 and No. 85 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup did not make it to the podium.
It was a surprising fifth place finish at least, for Benjamin Fischer and Manuel Mayer in the No. 84 car. Surprising, because the team had struggled with pace in the first championship round. However, all of the top positions went to the expected top teams. And thus the pressure is on this weekend, to make up as many points in the championship as possible.
Things went worse at Road America, for Pascal Theis and Y. Hignet. Technical problems and crashes relegated the No. 85 Porsche team to P17 in the championship, with an almost depressing 87 points gap to the leaders.
“We know the situation is not what we were looking for. But it is what it is. We can’t change what happened. We’re focused on doing better this weekend at COTA.”, Theis said.
Especially Hignet, who made a driver error resulting in a crash at Road America, is under pressure now.
“I’m adding most of the pressure myself. I have worked really hard, to prepare myself for COTA. My pace is good, I think. But the most important is, that I make no mistakes.”, explained Hignet.
The Circuit of the Americas is hosting all events this weekend. With a length of 5.52 km (3.43 miles) and no less than twenty corners, the track counts as one of the longest and challenging ones on the series calendar.
Start to the second championship round of the 2020-21 IVRA ClubSport Series is expected for Saturday 19:10 CEST / 1:10 pm EDT. RaceSpotTV will broadcast the race live again from start to finish.
